PSV Eindhoven: Ruud van Nistelrooy follows Schmidt

The former star-door Ruud Van Nistelrooy is in his Dutch home to the new season head coach of the PSV Eindhoven and follows Roger Schmidt.


The 45-year-old receives a contract until 2025, which announced the spread of the general division on Wednesday. His assistant is the former coach of FC Schalke 04 Fred Rutten, currently still board member of the newcomer NEC Nijmegen.

“It has always been my dream to become head coach of the PSV,” said Van Nistelrooy, who scored in 67 games for Eindhoven 62 goals from 1998 to 2001: “It’s the right moment to go the next step.” The long-term national player had previously worked with the club as a youngest and assistant coach of the first team.

Van Nistelrooy, who finished his career 2012, has scored 35 goals for Oranje in 70 internationals. At the EM 2020 he worked as a Wizard of National Coach Frank de Boer. Previously, Van Nistelrooy had already exercised this feature from 2014 to 2016.

As a striker, Van Nistelrooy became Master with Eindhoven, Manchester United and Real Madrid. From January 2010 to the end of the season 2010/11, the scorer ran in the Bundesliga for the Hamburg SV.

Schmidt (55) had announced in February that he would leave the club in summer. He should be a signature at Benfica Lisbon.
