Before the World Cup qualifier between Germany and Liechtenstein, ex-national coach Joachim Löw was officially adopted by the DFB. For this occasion, the DFB published a letter from the 61-year-old. Here is the letter in the wording.
Love players, dear team behind the team, dear DFB, dear fans,
Thank you for being part of our national team for 17 years. It was a fantastic time for which I am infinitely thankful.
There is nothing bigger and more beautiful than in sports to represent his country. We cheered for Siegen together and have built up and consolidated for disappointments and defeats. And together we arrived where we always wanted to do what we have always dreamed: Together we have become world champions.
If I look back now with a little distance, I do not see the Golden World Cup. But look in many faces standing for great memories, for encounters and talks that I will wear forever in me. For friendships that have arisen over the years, for tournaments and unique experiences we shared. Which have shaped us — not only in the field, but for life.
The restart with Hans Flick is absolutely successful with five wins in five games. I wish him and you from the heart all the best and many inspiring and successful tournaments with our national team. You deserve it. I stay your fan.
Thanks for everything, Germany! It was a great pleasure for me.
